My Role Model as CEO of Underground Elephant

My Role Model as CEO of Underground Elephant

In the startup world, strong unwavering coach-like leadership is crucial. Bill Belichick has stood as one of my greatest coaching role models, as his abilities to motivate and inspire his team to victory is unrivaled. He knows how to build a good team and bring out the best in every individual, which is similar to how a successful company is run. I like to take a similar coaching-style approach as a CEO, to help build our employees into the best versions of themselves. In an interview with CNN, Belichick says, “I think it’s important for us, as a team, to know each other. Know our teammates and our coaches.” He wins Super Bowl Championships by investing in his players and coaching staff, beyond practice/game hours. I’ve taken his model and implemented into our day-to-day life at Underground Elephant. We have a culture team dedicated to creating fun events like scavenger hunts, cocktail parties, and nights at the Padres games to allow the UE team to get to know each other and feel celebrated and valued by the company. Getting to know my employees in a casual environment also allows me to see strengths and weaknesses, hear future goals, and learn likes and dislikes that don’t always get brought up in a work environment.
